Sent i höstas genomförde [Music] Photocalypse en intervju med MAYHEMs Attila Csihar. I denna berättade han bland annat:
Om Blasphemer:
"It is a very complicated story that developed over a long period of time. He was always compared to other guitarists, and to Euronymus in particular. He has had a lot of that shit over years actually: from press, from the fans. However he had one hundred percent respect in the band and in fact he had the main role in the band: he was the composer of many albums. He is a very good and talented guitarist. But some people didn’t treat him as a full-right Mayhem member, so of course it went on his nerves after a while. He was in the band for nearly ten years . You know, people change. He has different interests now. His girlfriend is from Portugal and he has his own things to do and of course we were scheduled pretty tightly with Mayhem. So Blasphemer didn’t want to be in a band any more. His decision to leave was his choice , not ours."
Om nytt material:
"We have tried a few things of course. We are not in a rush. And Mayhem is not a kind of band that comes up with many albums. During last ten year we made just four full-length albums. So I think a new album will take some time. We won’t release it until we all one hundred percent satisfied by it. We have tried out one new song already. So yeah, there is some stuff going on."

1349 till Luleå
1349 är klara för festivalen Minus 30° som går den 20 mars i Luleå. Hade det inte varit så långt dit hade festivalen därmed varit ett givet besök. Kan man hoppas på en spelning lite längre söderut?

DARKTHRONE live
DARKTHRONE är ett få existerande band där det nästan inte finns något livematerial alls. Det som finns är av dålig kvalitet både vad gäller ljud och bild och berör nästan uteslutande låtar från tidiga demoskivor eller från "Soulside Journey". Det finns endast någon enstaka inspelning från senare alster och nedan kan ni se Transilvanian Hunger i dålig men väldigt stämningsskapande kvalitet inspelad 1996.
När det gäller officiella utgåvor finns en ljudinspelning av en konsert i Danmark på "Frostland Tapes" samt ljud och bild från Oslo 1989, Riihimaki 1991, Lahti 1991 och Oslo 1996 på "Preparing for War". På dessa två utgåvar är det mesta samlat av det som finns i form av demos, liveinspelningar och tidigare outgivna versioner när det gäller DARKTHRONE. Det är alltså samlingar som väldigt centrala i en skivsamling med black metal.

IMMORTAL
I min recension av IMMORTALs "All Shall Fall" skrev jag att även om jag tyckte att skivan var bra skulle den nog inom kort få stå tillbaka för skivor som till exempel "Pure Holocaust". Ibland förundras man över hur rätt man kan ha. Under en period innan släppet av "All Shall Fall" lyssnade jag inte så mycket på IMMORTAL här hemma men skivan blev startskottet på en återupptäckt av bandets tidigare skivor. Numera snurrar framför allt "Pure Holocaust" flitigt i skivspelaren.

Musikal om black metal?
I Norge sätts "Svartediket" upp och det skall (enligt arrangören) vara en musikal om black metal. På hemsidan står det följande:
"Vi har mottat haugevis med mail fra folk som lurer på hva de kan forvente seg av en Black metal musikal? og om dette er noe for “vanlige” folk?
Svar: Er du mellom 9 og 99 år (666 opp/ned)med et sterkt hjerte og solide tårekanaler og kjenner noen med et svakt hjert og slitne tårekanaler så ta dem med for dette blir himmel & helvete...og en død hånd å holde i!"
Intressant är att musikalen har premiär på en stor musik- och kulturfestival i Bergen, det är alltså ingen amatörteater det handlar om. För ett par dagar sedan offentliggjordes det att Gaahl skulle vara med men efter kontroversiella uttalanden ("Christianity has no place in this country. As long as the church has the power it has and supports oppression, we shouldn't give the church any sympathy. Therefore I don't think it's wrong if it (church burning) happens again. The symbolic value of burning down churches is important.") får vi väl se om han står på scen när "Svartediket" har premiär den 26 maj.

Festivalsommaren 2010
I kylan som råder känns sommaren långt borta men de stora festivalerna har redan släppt de första bokningarna. Som vanligt ligger de svenska festivalerna lite efter deras större motsvarigheter ute i Europa, både vad gäller antalet bokningar och storleken på banden. Än så länge har Sweden Rock gjort intressanta bokningar av WATAIN, BEHEMOTH och DANZIG. Mot detta ställer Metaltown RAMMSTEIN och NILE medan Sonisphere bland annat gör reklam med namn som IRON MAIDEN, HEAVEN & HELL, SLAYER, ANTHRAX och IGGY & THE STOOGES. Det kommer att bli intressant att följa utvecklingen framöver när fler bokningar blir klara.

SATYRICONs Satyr och Frost svarar på fansens frågor
Satyricon ligger ju på Roadrunner records och i deras senaste "Ask the artist" svarar Satyr och Frost på fansens frågor.
Satyr om sin skivsamling:
"There are also some things that I’m not necessarily proud of but it’s a bizarre record I have. You know the tragic death Euronymous from Mayhem? He had the record label Deathlike Silence where he released the records of Burzum. The man that was found guilty of this murder was the Burzum guy – who’s record Eronymous had released. After his death some of his band members were getting rid of the records the parents didn’t want. One of the records the argument related to was a mini LP called ‘Aske’ which means 'ashes'.
I was looking through the records thinking of buying some and I noticed blood stains on it. I asked 'what’s this?' because it was a Buzum record and seemingly it was in the hallway where this murder started basically. It was a stabbing so it was Eronymous’ blood that splattered on to some of the vinyl in the hallway. I thought it was so bizarre having the victim’s blood on the murder’s record. It’s not something I’m proud of owning but it definitely a bizarre piece. It’s a curiosity and I guess no one really thought about that and for me it wasn’t something I that I was going to frame but it definitely has a history that is bizarre and so I got that one."
Satyr om SATYRICONs framtid:
"Satyricon is divided in to two musical chapters- the ‘90’s with the first three records and then ‘Rebel Extravaganza’ is almost a record that symbolises our transition in a way. Then there is the 2000s with ‘Volcano’, ‘Now, Diabolical’ and ‘The Age Of Nero‘ - which is a conclusion of our work in the 2000s. It wouldn’t make me happy to continue like this. I’m going to have to find something new and exciting. I’m not afraid of that, it makes me very excited. It’s like the difference between getting a brand new car just like the one you had before as opposed to you’re going to get a brand new car, you don’t know which one yet but it’s going to be a great car. It’s really exciting in that way because I know we can do this and we’re not afraid of it.
We’re probably going to be doing some things where we’re going to be questioning “Why are we doing this? This is not working” where instead of getting disillusioned we have to start from scratch and do this again. We have done that many times before and you just have to have faith and belief in your vision for the project. I don’t know exactly what it’s going to be but just the fact that we’ve made this decision makes me excited and now I’m getting ideas on where to go. I’ve started thinking about things in a more detailed way and this will probably open up for me in six to eight months when it will become clear to me."
